A centre - the ZLL Centre for Lifelong Learning, Hofgeismar - was to be created from the school buildings, which were formerly structurally obsolete and fragmented. The design envisaged the construction of a flood-lit break hall as a common entrance building as well as the construction of a central cafeteria. The existing buildings - in particular the auditorium - have been renovated in line with conservation practice. Some functions, such as metalwork, art, and natural sciences are facilitated in other new buildings, which can be reached on dry feet from the central access by a direct connection or sheltered passage. The surrounding sports and outdoor facilities have been completely redesigned and will now meet the requirements of the ZLL for the next few years.
